The Story Behind Smokey & Dough: Our Journey to Crafting Perfect Wood-Fired Pizzas

Welcome to our very first blog post! We’re excited to take you behind the scenes and share our journey of how Smokey & Dough came to be - our little passion project that has brought delicious wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas to Cornwall and beyond.

It all began with a shared love for pizza and a dream to share that love with others. I'm David, and together with my wife Helen, we are the duo behind Smokey & Dough. We found ourselves enamoured with the idea of crafting authentic, mouthwatering pizzas using traditional techniques and the finest ingredients. My experience working in restaurants and pizza joints in London and Cornwall provided the perfect foundation, and with our shared creativity and vision, we shaped the business into what it is today.

The idea really took flight when Helen and I decided to incorporate our love for pizza into our own wedding venue at Camel Studio. Serving up flavour-packed pizzas to our guests, we quickly realised we were onto something special. With rave reviews pouring in, we knew we could take our passion to the next level.

And so, Smokey & Dough was born. With a custom-made horse box serving as our mobile pizzeria, we invested in a state-of-the-art pizza oven that cooks each pair of 10” pizzas in just 90 seconds, delivering a swift and seamless service without compromising on quality.

But it's not just about the food at Smokey & Dough – it's about the experience too. From the stylish yet practical design of our horse box to the open cardboard boxes we use to serve pizzas, allowing guests to easily share and enjoy together while also ensuring sustainability, every detail is thoughtfully considered.

At Smokey & Dough, sustainability is a core value. That's why we're committed to using locally-sourced produce wherever possible, supporting our community and ensuring the freshest and most flavourful ingredients in every bite. And with our bespoke pizza creations, tailored to each customer's preferences and dietary requirements, there's truly something for everyone to enjoy.
